What a terrific project! My process is very collaborative, and the owners of Coffee By Design are extraordinarily creative people with wonderful vision. The inspiration was their vision of an updated brand with a familiar flair, for their new coffeehouse, administrative offices and expanded production facility. That was our biggest challenge: create a design that could be considered an updating of brand, without losing the integrity of what had already been built and beloved by so many. We turned to warm, rich colors and finishes – colors to sip by! The client and I also share a passion for supporting and celebrating local artists and craftspeople, so we commissioned a number of them for art, furnishings and lights. In addition, we displayed the owners vast collection of photos of all the wonderful farms and people from around the world where they source the beans, giving customers a real glimpse of the farm to table process of coffee. The result: a hip, warm and welcoming space where folks feel equally comfortable to grab a quick coffee to go, have a business meeting, or lounge with friends.
